A Letter to Democrats and Moderates of All Stripes

Dear Democrats and Moderates of All Stripes:
What's the plan? All we hear from politicians is a slew of pleas for money. Where is your Plan for 2029? What do you propose to do if you ever get back in power? Is it a rational one, that doesn't merely swing the pendulum back? We need some real reason to hope from you. Here's a start of things we think might be useful.
We're calling on moderates to get together and create something that works for everyone. We think this is a great time to rewrite our founding documents, now that it's clear they do not currently suit our modern times.

• Rewrite the Declaration of Independence: All people are created equal.
• Rewrite the Constitution. We the people of the United States, to make a more perfect union, need to make a new constitution. Make it more robust.

Of immense importance:

1. Rebuild a robust Voter Rights Act. Make it bulletproof. Everybody gets to vote. We need every single citizen to vote, and we need to make that process easier, not harder.

The rest is to force Congress do their jobs, and stop defaulting to the Supreme Court for final say.

• Impeach the bad actors. There is no place in the United States for fascism, autocrats or oligarchs.
• Institute a recall process for getting rid of bad presidents/congress people/judges. It's ridiculous that people go through the election/confirmation process lying about what they are going to do once they get into office and not have a way to stop them.
• Raise taxes on the ludicrously rich. Get them to pay for what they're getting out of us — think of it as reparations for water use, joblessness, horrific debt as a start.
• Abolish gerrymandering and the electoral college. Lincoln said it best: "Government of the people, by the people, for the people."
• Reestablish DEI and laws supporting minorities.
• Set a federal minimum wage that's reasonable.
• Reconfigure the Supreme Court - four Democrats, four Republicans, one (or more) Independents. Term limits, 20 years. Congress chooses. Retired judges make up an advisory panel.
• Build reasonable rules for immigration and paths to citizenship. Abolish ICE.
• Find and release all those who are held in detention facilities on and off shore and use due process to get them justice.
• Rebuild FEMA. Get emergency assistance to states and people who suffer from natural disasters in a way that doesn't terrify people.
• Reestablish science as a founding principle — the US was once the leader in education and research, right now our best people and their needed work are leaving for other countries.
• Rebuild the EPA and other agencies so they are independent from the Executive Branch. Make them answerable to congress. The heads should be leaders in their fields and members of those communities, not political appointees.
• Refund the arts — people cannot live on bread alone.
• Write and enact laws significantly supporting an independent and free press.
• Rewrite and reestablish the Affordable Care Act.
• Open federally-supported health care facilities.
• Write laws supporting reproductive rights and codify them.
• Establish a powerful agency to combat and adapt to climate change.
• Set limits on tariffs, and a process for creating them sensibly.
• Rebuild connections with the rest of the world, including USAID and NATO.
• Stop the wars in Iran and Gaza and negotiate an end to the Ukraine fiasco.
• Clean up the messes caused in Venezuela, Iraq, Nigeria, and Somalia.
• Demolish the White House and move it back to Philadelphia.
