When they arrived at the airport, Antoine (or rather, Derek), and Susan went through to the security gate. “Try not to take it too hard, Susan.”

“Sue! Hey, Sue Harker!” came a voice from the airport waiting room.

“Oh my god, it’s Avijit,” said Susan. A thin man came up to Susan and Antoine, clutching a laptop computer and briefcase and looking a bit travel-worn.

“Hi Sue, going somewhere?”

“No, Avijit, I’m sending my fiancé off on a business trip. I don’t think you’ve met Derek, have you? Derek Chambers, this is Avijit Ganesh, he works at Systack with me.”

“Oh yes, we met at the office, don’t you remember? He came in to pick you up one day. Nice to see you again, Mr. Chambers.” Avijit juggled his brief case, and put his hand out to shake Antoine’s (or rather, Derek’s) hand.

“And you, Mr. Ganesh. Are you returning to Boca Raton this evening?”

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I am. I just came back from a visit to our west-coast office.”

“Perhaps you might care to ride with Susan back to town. I would prefer she not drive alone this late at night.”

“I was planning on taking the shuttle, but I’d be happy to, if you don’t mind, Sue.”

“Of course not.”

“I’ll just go get my bags and meet you outside the gate.”

“Fine.”

After he left, Susan whispered fiercely, “What are you doing, Antoine?”

“I like him, Susan. And so do you.”

“Now look, don’t you think it’s a little soon for me to… and besides he dresses funny.”

“Susan,” Antoine said, looking very like Derek at that moment. “Don’t you know better than to judge someone on the basis of appearances? Look at me, do you know what I really look like? He is a good man, and although he doesn’t know it yet, he’s in love with you already. Give him a chance.”

“Mother is going to hate him.”

“Take him to see Mina. She’ll tell you.”

Susan pulled the car around to the arrivals gate and helped Avijit sling his bags into the trunk.

“I really appreciate this, Susan, and I hope you don’t mind.”

“No, no, that’s all right. We’re going the same way, it would be ridiculous for you to take the shuttle.”

After a slight pause, Avijit said, “I hope you don’t mind my saying so, Sue, but your fiance reminds me of a vampire in an old movie, for some reason. Bela Lugosi, perhaps. No offense meant, of course.”

“Really? I hadn't noticed, but now that you say that, I suppose there is something to that. Listen, Avijit, what are you doing tomorrow? Would you like to meet my Aunt Minnie?”
